Presentation at Casa Asia of the book ‘La espera’, the objects of Hiroshima

Authors: Arthur Binard and Tadashi Okakura.

Tomorrow Thursday at 7 pm, the Centro Casa Asia in Madrid (Calle Mayor, 69) presents the book La espera. Free activity upon registration.

In February 2011, poet Arthur Binard (pictured) and photographer Tadashi Okakura visited the Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima to portray some of the more than 21,000 objects that this space stores, marked by the uranium bomb that fell on the Japanese city on August 6, 1945.

Thus arose the work La espera, now translated into Spanish by Kazumi Uno and which for its publication in Spain has had the support of the Fundación Japón. A book that, through fourteen stories, recreates the life before the tragedy of as many other belongings and their owners. A tribute to the victims of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, in commemoration of its 80th anniversary.

In this meeting, the translator Kazumi Uno and the director of Kalandraka Xosé Ballesteros will talk about this work that explores human emotions and raises questions of deep philosophical depth.

Welcome remarks by Elvira Bodi, Casa Asia-Madrid’s programming coordinator, and Yasutaka Takeda, director of Fundación Japón, Madrid.
