Screening of the documentary ‘Uruguay Antártico’ at the Planetario de Madrid

The Embassy of Uruguay and the Planetario de Madrid (Av. del Planetario 16) invite next Thursday, September 25 at 18 hours to the screening of the first fulldome documentary produced in Uruguay: Uruguay Antártico, a unique immersive experience that transports the viewer to the heart of the white continent and the challenge of inhabiting its cold latitudes.

2025 marks the 40th anniversary of Uruguay’s accession to the Antarctic Treaty (7 October 1985), joining the select group of 29 countries that make up the body responsible for preserving this unique territory dedicated to peace and science.

The documentary, directed by Leo Scarone (who will be present at the screening), is the result of a personal initiative developed with the support of the Instituto Antártico Uruguayo (IAU), based on records obtained during five campaigns at the Artigas Base (2019, 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2024). The work highlights the sustained effort of the Uruguayan State in maintaining and developing the base, its commitment to the environment and its participation in international scientific projects.

Since 1984, Uruguay has maintained an uninterrupted presence in the Antarctic, reflecting constant state policies and cooperation between different ministries.
