The work of architect and painter Juan Navarro Baldeweg in CentroCentro

The Centro Cultural CentroCentro of Madrid (Plaza de Cibeles, 1) presents on its 5th floor, until next November 2, the work of the architect and painter Juan Navarro Baldeweg. Free entry.

The work of Juan Navarro Baldeweg transits over an extensive territory, interwoven by the different expressive means he has practiced: painting, sculpture, architecture, installations. In isolation, the proposals made since the 1960s in these fields are very diverse and have their own specificities, but put together they express common generative principles which link them.

The ideas they reflect, or the ways of doing that they suggest, are due to their relationship with dimensions identified in the natural environment such as gravity, light or energy and information flows; as well as with references derived from active participation in the work of art of the human body, especially regarding the visual horizon and the gestural expressiveness of the hand; but also perceive universal behaviors in physical processes of action that demonstrate the inevitable reciprocity existing in the world between energy consumption and expenditure, between creating or building and destroying by creating.

The peculiarity of this set of works is its insistence, its recurrence as a creative strategy to thread some of these lines or unlimited threads in their enunciation. The development of these essential themes, identified by Navarro Baldeweg at an early stage, has allowed him to develop a unifying form of thought, a complex conceptual and expressive alphabet capable of grouping works from different media in a coordinate system, a common structure, a single primordial room, an earlier house.

This exhibition highlights the fundamental role of painting: the creative experience of a task that links making and chance; a task that accepts its encounter with something alien, with the unexpected, guided by an endless end, that is to say a selfless expectation or undefined objective. The exhibition shows works in painting and other expressive media that make the creative journeys evident on the board that groups them and that is passable precisely by the ways of their common constitutive principles.
