Until next Sunday, June 29, the Teatro Bellas Artes de Madrid presents the operetta bufa Cassandra or the praise of failure, with direction, script and music by María Herrero, along with Íñigo Guardamino in the libretto.
Performed by Cristina Bernal, Blanca Tamarit, Amaranta Munana and Luis Maesso, this work is a comic show on the way between contemporary chamber opera and theatre. The montage immerses in the life of the mythological character of Cassandra, known for her prophetic gift, but also for the cruel punishment she received from Apollo: the curse that no one believed her predictions.
In this adaptation, Cassandra, trapped in the underworld, recovers her prophetic gift and wants to return to the world of the living, to warn them of a great catastrophe. Despite knowing that this is a place where her apocalyptic warnings and visions will undoubtedly fall on deaf ears, Cassandra will try by all means to get out of the underworld to fulfill her mission. Despite the various impediments she will encounter along the way and the challenge to the gods that this entails, Cassandra will choose to persevere in trying to be heard to help the human world.
