The Embassy of Portugal organizes the dialogue ‘Three voices, a global echo’

 

On the occasion of the publication of the book New Portuguese Letters, by María Isabel Barreno, María Teresa Horta and Maria Velho da Costa, next Thursday, June 12 at 7 pm, Casa América presents the Dialogue ‘Tres voces, un eco global’, organized by Casa América, the Embassy of Portugal and the Editorial La unibría y la solana.

 

Novas cartas portuguesas is a choral work created from letters, but also poems, essays and other experimental texts that came to question the role of women in the Portuguese society of the dictatorship.

 

Known as «the three Marys», its authors were soon censored and imprisoned for a book that allegedly violated morality and good morals. His pardon would not come until after the 1974 Carnation Revolution. Half a century later, her voice is heard again to break precisely the hegemonic narrative that has explained to the world art made by women.

 

The event will be opened by Moisés Morera Martin, director of programming at Casa de América, and will be attended by Soledad Gallego Díaz, journalist; Verónica Palomares, teacher; and Santiago Pérez Isasi, translator. Free admission until capacity is full.
