The Embassy of the Dominican Republic has organized several activities in the framework of the Madrid Book Fair, with the presence of various writers from different branches and the close collaboration of Huerga & Fierro Editores.
The 84th edition of the Madrid Book Fair is dedicated this year to New York in Spanish: the light from across the Atlantic, so the main talk of the Dominican country will be El viaje y la máscara: una panorámica de la literatura dominicana en Nueva York, by Rey Andújar (pictured), who will be accompanied by Marino Beriguete, José Mármol and Bileysi Reyes, on June 9 at the Ibero-American Pavilion at 1:00 pm.
Other events include a recital of new Dominican poetry, with the participation of Mateo Morrison, Ángela Suazo, Daniel Tejada and Marielys Duluc, at Casa de América on June 5; and the lecture Flesh and soul: images about corporeality, of Jochy Herrera, in the Ateneo de Madrid, on the 6th at 9:00 pm.
The talk El cacique Enriquillo: Un indígena por la libertad de América, by Lidia Martínez de Macarrulla, will also be presented on June 10 at the Centro Cultural Emilia Pardo Bazán, at 7:00 pm. In the same center, but on June 2 at 6:00 pm, will take place the talk Economy Orange and Publishing: a new paradigm for writers, by Keila González.
There will also be workshops and book presentations for children in the Children’s Pavilion of the fair, on 11 and 15 June; as well as poetry recitals and book presentations by Lisette Vega de Purcell and several writers belonging to the Cultural Association and Asociación Cultural y de Cooperación al Desarrollo Biblioteca República Dominicana (Acudebi), on 2 and 8 June at the Centro Cultural Emilia Pardo Bazán.
Friday, June 13 will be a day of good luck and a highlight, with the joint presentation of several books, including those around the figure of Juan Pablo Duarte, accompanied by a lecture by Jeannette Alfau, president of the Instituto Duartiano, Madrid branch, in the auditorium of the Firma de Abogados Ecija, at 6:00 pm. On the same day, there will be a presentation of the book by Dr Electa Navarrete, entitled Climbing Everest in Heels, and poetry by Josanny Moní.
