King Felipe VI and the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will inaugurate this Monday in Barcelona the 2025 edition of the Mobile World Congress (MWC), the largest and most influential event for the mobile and technology industry in the world for the connectivity ecosystem.
The 19th edition of the Mobile World Congress (MWC), the great global event for mobile technology, will be held at the Fira de Barcelona between March 3 and 6. However, the event began this Sunday with the opening dinner of the event, which was presided over by the King.
The congress will be inaugurated by Felipe VI and will be attended by Pedro Sánchez, the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, and the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant. Óscar López, Minister for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service, will also participate on Monday in an event organised at the Spanish Pavilion.
According to the forecasts of the organizing entity of the MWC, the GSMA, this year it will receive more than 101,000 visitors from around the world (51 percent, executives, and 21 percent, senior executives), which translates, according to the organizers, into an estimated economic impact of between 540 and 550 million euros. Since it was first held in Barcelona in 2006 as the 3GSM World Congress, this event is estimated to have generated around 6.85 billion euros and 160,000 temporary jobs. In this edition alone, the organisers expect to generate around 9,200 temporary jobs.
As a novelty, the 2025 edition of the MWC, whose motto will be ‘Converge. Connect. Create’, will have as its main themes Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the evolution of 5G in its different applications. The latest developments in robotics and smart home applications will also be revealed, with their consequent impact on society.
The event is expected to bring together approximately 2,700 exhibitors from multiple countries (both large brands and small startups and public organisations), who will present their innovations and novelties, and around 1,200 speakers during the four days of the fair.
Among the exhibitors, major technology companies such as Google, Huawei, Meta, Samsung, Microsoft and Xiaomi will return to Barcelona, as well as major Spanish companies such as Telefónica, which will also present its latest developments at MWC 2025, as has been announced in recent weeks. New to the event will be Alibaba Cloud, China Unicom, Databricks and Indra, among others, for the first time.
