<h6><strong>Eduardo González</strong></h6> <h4><strong>The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, received the governor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Jenniffer González, in Madrid on Thursday, with whom he discussed “the importance of relations between Spain and the US”.</strong></h4> “Meeting in Madrid with Jenniffer González, governor of Puerto Rico,” Albares said on social media. “We discussed the importance of relations between Spain and the US and the Spanish language that unites us,” he continued. “Spain is a bridge between Puerto Rico and Europe,” he added. The mention of relations between Spain and the US is particularly significant. Puerto Rico is a Commonwealth and, since its removal from the UN list of colonial territories in the 1950s, it is legally listed as a territory of the United States subject to the authority of the Congress of this country. Jenniffer González, governor since January 2, a Republican and close to President Donald Trump, was Puerto Rico's resident commissioner in the U.S. House of Representatives and leads the New Progressive Party (PNP), which supports the annexation of the island as a federated state of the United States. On her account on the social network X, she defines herself, in English, as "proudly representing the 3.2 million U.S. citizens of Puerto Rico in Congress." The governor is in Madrid for the International Tourism Fair (FITUR). Specifically, Jenniffer González and the president and CEO of Iberia, Marco Sansavini, signed an agreement at FITUR this Thursday by which the airline agrees to operate a daily flight between Madrid and San Juan for the next twelve months. According to the executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Willianette Robles, with the increase to one daily flight throughout the year, the capacity of the route will increase to a total of 210,000 available seats. The route connecting the cities of Madrid and San Juan is operated by an Airbus A330-200 with capacity for 288 passengers. “We have already completed 75 years connecting Puerto Rico with Europe and alliances like this one lay the foundation for many more years to come,” said Marco Sansavini, quoted by the company in a press release.
