Tomorrow Wednesday at 18.30 in the Iberia room of Casa América, the Embassy of Uruguay presents Agárrame fuerte, Uruguay’s candidate for the Goya 2025 Awards, written and directed by filmmakers Ana Guevara and Leticia Jorge and played by Chiara Hourcade, Victoria George and Eva Dans.

The film was world premiere at the Tribeca International Film Festival (New York) and participated in the Los Angeles Latin American Film Festival, the São Paulo Film Show and the Gothenburg Film Festival, Sweden. It will soon compete in the official section of the Festival de Cine Iberoamericano de Huelva, Spain.

Ana Guevara and Leticia Jorge (Uruguay) are screenwriters and directors. Before their debut in the feature film they made the short films El cuarto del fondo (2006), Corredores de verano (2009) and 60 primaveras (2015), which were premiered internationally at festivals such as Rotterdam, Bilbao, Tampere and Miami. In 2013 they write and direct their first film, Tanta agua, which premiered at the Berlinale and won awards at the festivals of Cartagena de Indias, Miami, Guadalajara, Lima, Transilvania and San Sebastián, among others. Her second film, Alelí (2019), written by both of them and directed by Leticia Jorge, was released at the Biarritz and Chicago festivals. Agárrame fuerte (2024) is his third feature film.

Agárrame fuerte talks about friendship without stating it. From there it is born, that’s it. If what cinema and love have in common is the look, let’s think of this film as a letter of filial love. To friendship, cinema and a youth that we were lucky enough to share.

39 years is too young if it’s the age you’re going to die, or the age you’re going to lose your best friend. At Elena’s funeral everyone is there, family, friends and strangers. Adela can’t help but feel that everything is absurd and fictitious. The low light, the floral arrangements and the crucifix hanging behind the coffin have no relation to her dear Elena. Stunned by the present, anticipating a future that lacks something, she embarks on a journey towards a memory: a distant autumn, ten years ago, where a young Elena, witty and living waiting in a beach house to read detective novels and ride a bicycle…

After the screening, there will be a colloquium with the directors of the film, which will be moderated by Lola Mayo, screenwriter, producer and narrative teacher. Free admission until capacity is reached. Tickets will be distributed one hour before the start of the screening.
