The Community of Madrid recorded in 2022 the highest life expectancy in the EU for both women and men, according to Eurostat data published this Tuesday.
Specifically, according to these data, the life expectancy of women in the EU was 83.3 years, exceeding that of men (77.9) by 5.4 years. Life expectancy at birth in women reached its highest level in the Community of Madrid (87.7 years), followed by the Foral Community of Navarra (86.9 years) and Castilla y León (86.7 years), which had the second and third highest values.
On the other hand, the lowest life expectancy at birth for women was recorded in the French region of Mayotte (74.4 years), followed by three Bulgarian regions: Severozapaden (76.4 years), Severen tsentralen (77.0 years) and Yugoiztochen (77.6 years).
Eurostat notes that the Community of Madrid also tops the list for men, with a life expectancy of 82.4 years. The northern Italian region of the Autonoma di Trento province and the Swedish capital of Stockholm (both 82.3 years) had the next highest levels. Meanwhile, the lowest life expectancy was in the Bulgarian region of Severozapaden (68.7 years), followed by Latvia (69.4 years) and Severen tsentralen (66.6 years), also in Bulgaria.
