The government rejected the help offered by France after the DANA that has devastated the Spanish east, causing more than 200 deaths and numerous material damages, as revealed yesterday by the French Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau.
The day before, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, had indicated that France had prepared a contingent of up to 250 firefighters, ready to go to Spain as soon as they were requested, “with all the material” and “at any time”.
Yesterday, in statements to journalists, Retailleau said that he had spoken with the Spanish Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marslaka. “I have proposed help to him, I have proposed reinforcements and I have told him that at all times we have the means to send 200 firefighters,” he indicated.
According to the French minister, Grande-Marlaska’s response was that he was grateful for the offer, but that, for now, that help was not necessary. “At the moment it is not necessary, we are in a first phase, we are trying to organize ourselves and we are going to mobilize the Army,” said the Spanish Interior Minister.
Retailleau later clarified that the Spanish Government considered its own response capacity sufficient at this time.
Similarly, according to Voz Populi, Grande-Marlaska had spoken with his Moroccan counterpart, Abdelouafi Laft, who also offered Morocco’s help, but the minister indicated that it was not necessary.
