The Real Fábrica de Tapices (RFT) inaugurated last Thursday the exhibition Reunions to weave life and affections. The event was attended by the Ambassador of Colombia, Eduardo Avila Navarrete; the director general of the The Real Fábrica de Tapices, Alejandro Klecker, and Maisa Covaleda, curator of the exhibition.
The CEO of the RFT highlighted one of the values of the institution he represents: the circular economy and sustainability in all its manufacturing and restoration processes. “One of the missions of the FRG, he said, is to project us as an example to those Latin American textile manufacturing industries in recycling processes”.
The Colombian ambassador praised “the exchange of knowledge and know-how that this exhibition brings together” as well as “the ancestral work of the artisans who continue to perform within their communities”.
Maisa Covaleda, curator of the exhibition, introduced the central axis of the exhibition: “Textiles are meeting”. He then presented the exhibition, which explores textiles as a powerful means of expression, interweaving matter, body, experience and network. This shows the textile as a support of languages and narratives, with special emphasis on the Andean cultures, where the fabrics have been seen as an analogy to the principle of life, care and community. This approach is the pretext for building a space of exception, where inscribed readings are explored that allow memory to emerge, community links to be reestablished and the ancestral craft of women in textile creation highlighted.
This exhibition, which will be on display until next November 12, comes from the meeting called “La juntanza” between Carolina Anfibia, Ana Milena Gómez and Maisa Covaleda, who under the management and production of El Árbol del Magnolio, platform of creation and artistic production in Latin America, have made it possible to develop a project that covers not only this exhibition, but also the exchange of knowledge between territories, artists and artisans through laboratories, artistic residences, Knowledge management, talks, colloquia and the promotion of community initiatives.
