Casa América presents the Peruvian guitarist Sonia Hernández in concert in its Sala Bolívar next Thursday, July 11 at 7 p.m. Free entry until complete seats.
Since its arrival in Peru in the 16th century, when the first vihuelas and other stringed instruments arrived from the Spanish, the guitar has had a singular role in the Andean country, both in the evolution of mestizo music in cities and towns. Cuzco or Ayacucho, as in the development of Creole and Afro-Peruvian music from the coast.
The Peruvian guitarist Sonia Hernández, trained in classical guitar at the National Conservatory of Music, cultivates both aspects with great solvency and on this occasion offers a concert that allows us to appreciate the musical richness of her particularities.
Sonia Hernández continues her musical studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Madrid, honor in the specialty of guitar. Then, in New York, he obtained his Master in Music from the Mannes School of Music, under the direction of maestro Michael Newman. Among his most important concerts is his debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in New York, followed by concerts at Merkin Hall, New School University’s Tishman Auditorium, Columbia University, Rutgers University and Americas Society. In Vienna, where he now resides, his presentations at the Cervantes Institute, the Haus Hoffmannthal, Kursalon and St. Stephen’s Cathedral stand out. The artist has also given presentations in Spain and other countries, has participated in numerous international guitar festivals and has given master classes on various occasions.
This concert is organized by the Embassy of Peru and Casa de América, in collaboration with the restaurants O’Breogán and Mesón O’Luar, Asedex Asesores, Estudio Juana Malca and Nails USA General Beauty.
The concert program will feature pieces such as Fiesta, by Virginia Yep; Pasadena, by Carlos Hayre; María José y Amotape is celebrating, by Mario Orozco, and Chabuca Limaña, by Manuel Alejandro, among others.
