Teatro Español presents ‘Camargo’, by Colombian Johan Velandia

From 2 to 5 May, the main hall of the Teatro Español in Madrid will host the return to Spain of the play Camargo, by the Colombian company La Congregación.

Playwright Johan Velandia and his company bring this mysterious play about hatred, violence and dark human nature. Based on real events, the play portrays the intimate life of serial killer Daniel Camargo Barbosa, one of the most terrifying killers in Latin America. A staging that portrays the intimate life and the dark mental places of this murderer and where the audience will always be close to the intimacy of the characters.

Between 1984 and 1986, a wave of terror shook Ecuador. Piles of corpses of women between the ages of 8 and 20, all virgins, were found in secluded, lonely and wooded places. According to the investigations, the deaths had been caused by strangulation and mechanical asphyxiation with signs of rape almost at the moment of death. No one imagined that behind these strange and atrocious disappearances would be a kind, weak-looking man: the Colombian Daniel Camargo Barbosa. Camargo moved through countries such as Colombia, Brazil and Ecuador, claiming an estimated 157 victims in 20 years.

After winning public and critical acclaim in countries such as Argentina, Panama, Mexico, Costa Rica, Venezuela and several cities in Spain, Camargo returns to confront Madrid audiences with the place of hatred in the history of Colombia and, above all, that hatred that is found in the dark room of all human beings. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
