As part of the Incontri d’autore cycle , this evening at 7 p.m., the Instituto Italiano de Cultura in collaboration with the Tránsito publishing house, is organising a meeting with Carmen Verde, a writer from Santa Maria Capua Vetere who works for Poste Italiane in Rome.
Carmen Verde was nominated for the 2023 edition of the Strega Prize, with the novel Una minima infelicità, published by Neri Pozza, soon to be published in Spanish by Alfaguara. Over the years his stories have been published in anthologies, essays, magazines and plaquette by various publishers. In 2018 he was one of the authors recommended by the Calvino Prize and in 2019 his first novel Tutta la vita dietro un dito, written together with Alex Oriani, was published.
The protagonist of the novel A Minimal Unhappiness is Annetta, the narrator, a very petite young woman who recounts her life lived in the shadow of her mother Sofia Vivier. A beautiful and at the same time disturbing and mysterious woman who is ashamed of her daughter’s body, which does not grow, making her always remain a child. Carmen Verde’s fascinating book was nominated for the Strega Prize by the writer Leonardo Colombiati, who compared the figures of Anna and Sofia to the geniuses of Arabian fairy tales, their vitality is such that they leave the novel to enter the “destiny of successful characters”.
