On 11 and 12 September, the University of Salamanca, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Casa de América and the Instituto Cultural de México en España are organising the meeting Mexico in Spain: Presence and Representations. Siglos XVI a XXI, which brings together specialists from various international institutions to address the different ways in which, from the 16th century to the present day, New Spain and Mexico have been seen and represented in Spain.
Multiple representations and intellectual, cultural and artistic transmissions will be shown, ranging from the first maps and descriptions of the New World to the transmission and impact of ideas, art, literature, music and gastronomy. Among other topics: chronicles of indigenous settlements and archaeological collections, records of Humboldt and his explorations, music and films from the golden age of Mexican cinema, muralism and avant-garde painting, contemporary literature and the fusion of Mexican and Spanish food.
