The Embassy of the Dominican Republic presented last Thursday the medals of the School Merit Awards 2023 in a ceremony led by Ambassador Juan Bolivar Diaz.
This recognition is awarded to ten outstanding Dominican students or students of Dominican descent residing in Spain, by virtue of their excellent academic performance and exemplary behaviour in the community. In addition, two honourable mentions will be awarded to students who have demonstrated outstanding effort and personal improvement.
After carefully reviewing the more than thirty nominations received, the jury composed of Juan Fernández, a Dominican psychiatrist; Jeannette Alfau, a Dominican lawyer; and Susana Mateos, in charge of Early Childhood and Inclusive Education at the Organisation of American States (OEI), has carried out a laborious task of selection. The winners of the thirteenth edition of the School Merit Award are: Candela Prisela Pérez Gomera, Alexander Marley Pérez Batista, Honey Hillary Generéz Fuentes, Gabriel Alonso Carriazo, Lusielly Dimarién Peralta, Jean Luis Ulloa Acosta, Ashley Justo Sención, Candela Domínguez Piña, Deivi Francisco Suriel and Leidy Laura Acosta Anico.
Likewise, the winners of the prize for overachievement are: Noriely Holguín Luna, Jeremi Santiago Olaverria Rocha and Miranda Magaly de la Cruz Morel.
The ten winners of the Award will receive a laptop computer, as well as a cultural trip to Santo Domingo, sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, where they will meet with President Luis Abinader Corona and visit the main Dominican institutions, museums and cultural centres.
