In the framework of Veranos de la Villa 2023, on 18 and 19 July at 22:30, the Compañía Antonio Gades will present the pieces Bodas de sangre and Suite flamenca in the Patio Central of the Centro Cultural Conde Duque.
Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the premiere of Bodas de sangre by Antonio Gades at the Teatro Olímpico in Rome, a monument of dance that has gone down in history as one of the best universal translations of Lorca’s work. In addition, this ballet gave rise to another unavoidable historical event, the first of the collaborations of the mythical tandem Antonio Gades and the recently deceased Carlos Saura, whose collaboration contributed decisively to the universalisation of this art form.
An inescapable reference in the world of dance, Bodas de sangre consecrates flamenco as a dramatic language capable of telling stories, becoming a disseminator of the work of Federico García Lorca at the highest level. A union that today is considered almost natural and that has its roots in the work of the already mythical Argentinita and her relationship with the avant-garde movements that flourished in Spain at the beginning of the 20th century.
