The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, warned yesterday that “there is no room for equidistance” with respect to Ukraine and assured that the four Leopard 2A4 battle tanks that remain to be delivered to this country have already been repaired and are about to leave for Poland to join Ukraine in a few weeks.
Robles pronounced these words during the inauguration of the summer course Geopolitical Trends IV: The effects of the war in Ukraine, organized by the Complutense University and the Spanish Institute of Strategic Studies in San Lorenzo de El Escorial.
“Ukraine is giving us a lesson in how they defend their values and their country, they give us an example every day that we have to learn from,” Robles told the attendees. “I would not want public opinion to relax,” she added. For this reason, the minister was proud of the “unwavering support” and unity among EU and NATO states to support a country that is suffering an “illegitimate war for which Vladimir Putin is solely responsible.” “There is no room for equidistance,” she warned. “We must say without complexes that at this time to support and be in NATO is to be for peace and the values of democracy and freedom.”
For this reason, Margarita Robles assured that Spain will continue to be committed both with the sending of military material and with the training of Ukrainian combat personnel and informed, in this sense, that the four Leopard 2A4 battle tanks that remain to be delivered to Ukraine as part of the commitment acquired by Spain have already finished their repair and are about to leave for Poland, to join Ukraine in a few weeks.
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, assured this past Saturday in Kyiv, after addressing the Ukrainian Parliament and meeting with President Volodomir Zelenski, that Spain will send another four Leopard combat tanks and more armored personnel carriers to Ukraine, which will join the other six tanks announced during his previous visit to Kyiv, last February.
The minister also warned of the situation being experienced on the African continent, and in particular the Sahel area. “We cannot take a back seat to what is happening in Africa because anything that implies an abandonment on the part of the EU is going to mean a rise on the part of Russia,” she declared.
