On Thursday 29 June at 6.30 p.m., the China Between the Lines Reading Club returns to the Centro Cultural de China (General Pardiñas, 73) with the presentation of the book Hojas rojas (Red Leaves), by Can Xue, one of the most unique contemporary Chinese writers.
In this book of short stories, the main characters are human beings, vegetation, birds and animals from the underground world. Belén Cuadra Mora, translator of the book, will also be present.
Can Xue invites readers to enter an enveloping landscape, deeply organic and full of secrets, where the physical and the spiritual mingle. A place that probes the space between memory and silence that is both familiar and fertile ground for the imagination, with delightfully eccentric and surreal elements.
In his stories, men and women live on the edge of paranoia, snowbirds fly overhead and the wind and willows, magpies and azaleas, shadow men and underground critters take the floor, natural entities that shed light on the forces that shape what is known as reality.
Admission is free in person with prior confirmation of attendance at eventos@ccchinamadrid.org before 28 June. ZOOM connection details will be emailed in advance to members of the China Between the Lines book club.
