The Embassy of Paraguay organises next Thursday 1st of June at 6pm in the Simón Bolívar hall of Casa América the conversation Voces de la selva (Voices of the jungle) with Father José Zanardini. Free entrance until full capacity is reached.
His first contact with an indigenous people was with the Ayoreos, in the Paraguayan Chaco. There he worked and lived with them for several years. More than 15 years ago he published the first dictionary of the Ayoreo language. In 2001, Father Zanardini was awarded the International Peace Prize by the Government of the Lombardy Region. In 2016, the Congress of the Paraguayan Nation awarded him the medal “El Cabildo”, for his work in creativity, innovation and scientific research. In 2018, he received a tribute from the Catholic University for his great contribution as an anthropologist, theologian and sociologist. In addition to his legacy of research into the native cultures of Paraguay.
On one occasion Father Zanardini said: “the historical memory of the people is fundamental for civic, political, economic and cultural life. As has always been said: history is the teacher of life”.
