The Instituto Francés continues this evening at 8 p.m. with its cycle of Ukrainian films organised as part of Europe Day. The second film screened is Homeward, by Nariman Aliev, the odyssey of a father and son to their homeland, Crimea. Screening in Ukrainian with subtitles in Spanish. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
After the death of his first-born son at the front, the Tatar Mustafa undertakes an impossible journey of a thousand kilometres from Kyiv to his ancestral homeland, Crimea, to give him a dignified burial. The violent journey becomes a reunion with the love of his youngest son, who accompanies him. He is also overcome by the desire to be united with his lost homeland.
In solidarity with Ukrainian filmmakers, the Institut Français is organising this cycle of contemporary Ukrainian cinema. These films show the vitality of Ukrainian cinema over the last 10 years, with an increasingly important presence at international film festivals (Cannes, Berlin, etc.). The cycle presents, among others, a number of Ukrainian documentaries, a genre that has been very popular in Ukrainian cinema in recent years.
