The Minister of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, reinforced yesterday in Georgia “maximum police cooperation” between the two countries to face “common challenges” posed by the current context of globalization “by the threats of terrorism, cybercrime and organized crime”.
According to the Ministry, Grande-Marlaska met yesterday in Tbilisi with Grigol Liluashvili, head of the State Security Service of Georgia, as part of his second day of work in the country, which began on Thursday with meetings with the Prime Minister, Irakli Garibashvili, and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri.
The Spanish minister and the head of the Security Service agreed to highlight the “close police relationship” between the two countries, which allowed the dismantling in 2019 of two organized groups in Spain, and discussed the future creation of joint police teams for the fight against human trafficking, emergency management and citizen security.
Grande-Marlaska also visited yesterday the Agency of Public Law Entities of Georgia, where he received the most updated information on the procedures being carried out by the Georgian Government for the agreement on the exchange of driving licenses between the two countries, a matter that was already addressed on Thursday at the meeting between the two holders of Interior.
