The Sociedad de Conciertos La Filarmónica presents pianist Maria João Pires (pictured) and conductor Trevor Pinnock conducting the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra in works by Mozart and Beethoven on 9 February at 19.30 at the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid.
Some historians claim that Mozart and Beethoven met in Vienna in the spring of 1787 and that, after hearing Beethoven at the piano, the Salzburg genius exclaimed: “Listen to this boy; one day the world will talk about him”. What is certain is that Beethoven travelled to Vienna to learn from his admired Mozart and Haydn. Beyond the legend that this hypothetical meeting has generated, these two names have remained forever linked in the history of music.
Maria João Pires, Trevor Pinnock and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg have had Mozart and Beethoven at the heart of their careers. In this concert, the audience will be able to enjoy so many years of service and admiration for these two composers with the performance of Beethoven’s “Coriolanus” Overture, op. 62, and Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 3 in C minor, op. 37, and Mozart’s Symphony No. 41, in C major, “Jupiter”.
