The Diplomat
His Majesty the King will receive the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Madrid on Wednesday, the 25th, at a ceremony to be held at the Royal Palace.
This is the traditional reception by the Head of State, at which the Monarch addresses the ambassadors of the countries and multilateral organisations that have representatives in Spain, to congratulate them on the New Year and review Spanish foreign policy.
On this occasion, in addition to references to the rotating Presidency of the EU, which Spain will assume on 1 July, part of the speech is expected to show his support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, following Russia’s invasion, which will be eleven months old.
Among those attending the reception, however, the new Russian ambassador to Madrid, Yuri Klimenko, will not be present, since, although he presented his Copies of Letters to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the end of December, he has not yet been able to present his Letters of Credence to the King, an essential requirement for taking part in acts presided over by the head of state.
On the other hand, the new ambassadors of Colombia, Japan, the Slovak Republic, the Republic of Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Sultanate of Oman and Honduras, who presented their Letters of Credence on Monday, will be able to attend. The delivery of the Letters of Credence will take place in strict order of arrival in Spain.
