The Diplomat
Venezuela’s Chargé d’Affaires in Spain, Coromoto Godoy, is already presenting herself as Venezuela’s ambassador to Spain on social networks, despite the fact that her appointment has not yet been formally made.
Although this appointment is about to take place, the fact is that, according to the first vice-president of the Bolivarian National Assembly, Pedro Infante, during a press conference broadcast by the state-run Venezolana de Televisión (VTV) on Tuesday, the House is currently “in the process of approving and ratifying Venezuela’s proposal for its ambassador to Spain”. He added that “this continues to move forward”.
On her Twitter account, Godoy presents herself as “ambassador designated to the Kingdom of Spain” and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yvan Gil, retweeted a tweet from the Secretary General of the Organisation of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI), Mariano Jabonero, in which he reported that he had held “a protocol meeting with the new Venezuelan Ambassador”.
Coromoto Godoy took over the Venezuelan embassy in Madrid in mid-November as Chargé d’Affaires, but following the Spanish government’s decision on 28 December to restore the rank of ambassador in Caracas to the former Chargé d’Affaires, Ramón Santos, the Spanish authorities gave the go-ahead for the Maduro regime to do the same with its representative in Spain.
In any case, the formal appointment of Coromoto Godoy, a person very close to Maduro, is expected to take place very soon.
