The Spanish Government yesterday “welcomed” the cessation of hostilities agreement reached on November 2 between the Government of Ethiopia and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).
“The Government salutes the negotiating will of the parties and also appreciates the leadership of the African Union in the peace talks, as well as the role played by the Republic of South Africa,” the Foreign Ministry continued in a statement.
“Spain encourages upholding the letter and spirit of the agreement which should serve as a first step to restore basic services and full humanitarian access to the conflict zones and thus alleviate the suffering endured by the civilian population,” it continued. “The Government of Spain also looks forward to the full implementation of the provisions of the agreement relating to the redemption of accounts for human rights violations,” he added.
“Spain reiterates its readiness to support the Ethiopian people in the construction of peace and the search for a lasting solution within the framework of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia, with full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of that country,” the statement concluded.
