The Diplomat
Nepal’s new Ambassador to Spain, Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, presented the Copies of her Letters of Credence to the Director General of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, María Sebastián de Erice, last week.
The Second Secretary of the Embassy of Nepal in Madrid, Arjun Adhikari, and the Head of the Official Visits Service of the Ministry, Oscar Lema Bouza, were also present at the meeting.
Ambassador Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, as reported by The Diplomat, was appointed last April by Nepalese Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to fill the vacancy left by her predecessor, Dawa Phuti Sherpa.
The delivery of the Copies of Letters of Credence, also known as ‘Copias de Estilo’ in Spanish diplomatic jargon, is the step prior to the official presentation of the Letters of Credence to the King, and allows the incoming ambassador to begin to interact with all Spanish authorities and institutions and with the foreign diplomatic corps. He/she should only refrain from attending those acts in which Their Majesties the King and Queen are present until he/she has presented the Letters of Credence.
