The Government proposed yesterday a list of 25 cities to host the main meetings of the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council, to be held in the second half of 2023.

The list -which was approved yesterday during the third meeting of the Organizing Committee of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union, chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares– “includes cities from all the autonomous communities,” Moncloa said in a press release. “The Government of Spain thus wants to bring Europe closer to all citizens, and make visible to Europe and the world the richness and diversity of our country,” it added.

Albacete, Barcelona, Bilbao, Cáceres, Cádiz, Córdoba, Gijón, Granada, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, León, Logroño, Madrid, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca, Pamplona, San Sebastián, Santander, Santiago de Compostela, Sevilla, Tarragona, Toledo, Valencia, Valladolid, Vigo and Zaragoza are the 25 cities included in the list to be proposed by the Government, in coordination with the respective autonomous communities and local authorities, to host the main meetings of the fifth Spanish rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The preparations will be discussed with the Autonomous Communities during the Conference for European Union Affairs, which will take place in the Basque Country at the end of the month and which will be attended by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, and Territorial Policy, Isabel Rodríguez.

The Organizing Committee of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union is a body attached to the Presidency of the Government, which is responsible for the programming, planning, coordination and execution of the activities of the public administrations in this field. It is chaired by José Manuel Albares and is assisted by the Coordination Office of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union, which is responsible for promoting the work of the Committee.
