Together with the state museum of the Ministry of Culture and Sport, and PHotoESPAÑA, the Museo Cerralbo presents at its headquarters (Calle Ventura Rodríguez, 17), the photographic exhibition Tina Modotti, dedicated to one of the great women of twentieth-century photography. The exhibition brings together a total of 108 images and some crucial archive objects from the artist’s life, offering a journey through her biography and work.

Despite her short career as a photographer, Tina Modotti (Udine, Italy, 1896-Mexico, 1946) was capable of creating an aesthetic of great forcefulness. She became one of the leading reporters of one of the most turbulent periods in the history of Mexico, the country where she lived and died.

Tina Modotti was an immigrant to the United States, a Hollywood actress, photographer, evolutionary, communist militant, political refugee and member of the International Red Aid. From a very young age, she took on the role of a woman in opposition to the social imaginary imposed at the time. And in the short time that her rich life lasted, she sought beauty through photography, and worked for social justice through political militancy.

The exhibition, which can be visited until 2 October, continues the line of research into photography at the Museo Cerralbo in Madrid, which exhibits everything from historical collections to contemporary creations. In this way, the collaboration of more than a decade with PHotoESPAÑA continues.
