Curated by Stefano Dominella and with the artistic direction of Guillermo Mariotto, the exhibition Robotizados. Experiments in Italian fashion, organised by the Italian Embassy and the Instituto Italiano de Cultura of Madrid, in the recently renovated space of the Serrería Belga.
This exhibition project, which opens today at 12.30 p.m. and will be on display until 28 August, traces the influence that robot culture has had on fashion: super robots and fashion is therefore the perfect pairing to celebrate the profound link between science, technology and creativity. The iconic garments of great couturiers and the creations of young Italian designers ideally dialogue with the 50 metal robots from Roberto Pesucci’s precious collection, in an extraordinary play of suggestions.
To talk about robots, Dominella has taken as a pretext the first man to set foot on the moon, Neil Armstrong, with his space suit, a kind of armour-container of man that controls his movements from the inside, just like a robot. The Apollo 11 mission inspired and set fashion and trends. Metallic fabrics, lurex, aluminium, sequins and Plexiglas: “moon looks” are creations made of materials reminiscent of the lunar landscape and space travel.
