Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will visit Moldova and Poland on Thursday and Friday, according to Moncloa sources.

The President’s two-day tour comes just a week after his visit to Kiev, where he travelled accompanied by the Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, and met with the Ukrainian President, Volodimir Zelenski, to convey Spain’s solidarity and support.

Moldova and Poland are two of the countries that have received the most Ukrainian refugees since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began just over a month ago. According to UNHCR data, more than 2.9 million Ukrainians have crossed into Poland, while Moldova has received more than 433,000.

Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares visited both countries in mid-March. At that time, he announced that Spain would take in 1,000 Ukrainian refugees from Moldova, as well as sending 30 tonnes of humanitarian aid.
