Anglo-Spanish operetta ‘The Land of Joy’ conquers New York

 

On the occasion of the first performance in Spain of the Anglo-Spanish operetta The Land of Joy. La tierra de la alegría, as part of the Off Zarzuela programme of the XXIX edition of the Festival de Teatro Lírico Español de Oviedo, and within the framework of the parallel activities that have accompanied the exhibition Emigrantes invisibles. Spaniards in the USA. (1868 – 1945) during their passage through Asturias, tomorrow Thursday at 7 p.m. the Fundación Consejo España-EEE.UU. is organising a virtual meeting that will bring together the artistic cast of the concert and the curators of the exhibition.

 

This colloquium, which has the collaboration of one of the main supporters of the Festival, the Fundación Municipal de Cultura de Oviedo, will revolve around the process of recovery and adaptation of this unique piece and its link with the phenomenon of Spanish emigration to the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The conversation will be moderated by the promoter of the project and director and musicological coordinator, Miriam Perandones, and will be broadcast live on the YouTube channel of the Fundación Consejo España-EE.UU. and the Facebook page of the Fundación Oviedo Municipal Cultural.
