The Spanish construction company OHLA has been awarded the construction and maintenance of four hospitals in Chile with an investment of 287 million euros over the next 15 years.
According to Chile’s Ministry of Public Works, OHLA has won the bid against Spanish companies Acciona, Sacyr and Grupo San José and Mexican company Constructora y Edificadora GIA. The four hospitals are located in the Biobío region and will benefit a population of 414,000 people.
The Chilean Undersecretary of Public Works, Cristóbal Leturia, announced last Friday the awarding of these contracts for the Biobío Hospital Network during his visit to the site that will house one of the centers, the future Lota Hospital. The works will begin in the second quarter of 2023 and are expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2025.
One of the four centers awarded is the Santa Bárbara Hospital, a 12,000 square meter facility that will serve close to 22,000 inhabitants of the municipalities of Santa Bárbara, Quilaco and Alto Biobío. The second is the Nacimiento Hospital, which will have a surface area of 13,000 square meters and will serve 36,000 inhabitants of the communes of Nacimiento and Negrete.
The third center, the Coronel Hospital, will have a surface area of 79,000 square meters and will serve a population of close to 308,000 people in the municipalities of Coronel, San Pedro de la Paz and Santa Juana. Finally, the Lota Hospital will have 40,000 square meters of surface area and will serve 48,000 people from the same commune.
