Iberdrola has been recognised as one of the Global Compact LEAD companies for its ongoing commitment to the United Nations Global Compact and the 10 principles for responsible business.

The electricity company, which is part of this ranking for the fifth consecutive year, is the only Spanish member of this select group of companies, which represents 18 industrial sectors from all regions of the world.

Ignacio Galán, Chairman of Iberdrola, pointed out that the fight against climate change has guided the company’s strategy and decision-making over the last two decades, in which it has invested more than 120,000 million euros. “Our commitment continues to accelerate the transition and contribute to the development of industry and employment around the energy of the future, with investments in renewables, smart grids and storage in countries with clear frameworks and incentives, which will reach 150 billion euros during this decade,” he said.

Iberdrola has been selected for the Global Compact LEAD within the framework of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, held in New York, standing out as one of the organisations most oriented towards promoting a sustainable development model. The company has been part of the climate ambition and sustainable finance platforms, two areas in which it has been demonstrating its leadership. Iberdrola’s progress report is available on its participant profile on the United Nations Global Compact website. The company has been a member of the UN Global Compact since 2002.

“LEAD companies represent the highest level of commitment to the UN Global Compact,” said Sanda Ojiambo, CEO of the UN Global Compact. “Today, more than ever, the world needs more companies with a strong commitment to a more equitable and sustainable future for all of us.
Iberdrola is one of the world’s leading energy companies, a leader in renewables, which is spearheading the energy transition to a low-emission economy.

The group supplies energy to close to 100 million people in dozens of countries and carries out its renewables, networks and commercial activities in Europe (Spain, the United Kingdom, Portugal, France, Germany, Italy and Greece), the United States, Brazil, Mexico and Australia, and maintains as growth platforms markets such as Japan, Ireland, Sweden and Poland, among others.
