The State Secretary for the European Union, Juan González-Barba, yesterday discussed the European agenda with his Danish counterpart, Carsten Gronbech-Jensen, at a meeting in Madrid, in which they highlighted the “potential for cooperation” between the companies of the two countries, “leaders in areas such as renewable energies in view of the double green and digital transition that the EU NextGeneration Funds are going to promote”.
This is stated in a communiqué issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which indicates that Gronbech-Jensen’s visit served to discuss various issues, such as the progress of the vaccination campaign in Spain and Denmark.
On this point, the state secretaries agreed that the vaccines have been “key” to reducing hospital admissions, as well as to lifting some security measures, which, together with the EU’s COVID Digital Certificate, will allow “the tourist season to be launched”, the statement said.
On matters related to the European agenda, González-Barba shared with his Danish colleague the Spanish initiatives regarding the ‘Conference on the Future of Europe’ and the adopted model of citizen consultations, designed to give importance to collaboration with the Autonomous Communities and cities. In this respect, both representatives expressed their full support, since “it will give a voice to citizens at a particularly important time for the EU”, according to the Foreign Ministry.
They also addressed other issues that they will deal with “at EU level” over the coming months, such as the situation of the rule of law, the implementation of the NextGeneration EU Funds, the opportunities linked to the green and digital transition, the negotiation of the Migration and Asylum Pact, and the enlargement of the EU and relations with Turkey.
