The First International Conference on Women and Diplomacy brought together last Thursday in Madrid to the majority of the 22 ambassadors from different countries accredited in Spain, in an event organized by the Diplomatic School together with the Hispanic-French association Mujeres Avenir.
At the conference, sponsorized by Renault and presented by the president of Avenir, Maria Luisa de Contes, and attended by a large audience, the role of women in the diplomatic world was analyzed. To do so, under the moderation of Helena Cosano, deputy director of the School of Diplomacy, the ambassadors of Hungary, Enyko Gyori; Costa Rica, Doris Osterlof; Algeria, Taous Feroukhi; and Cyprus, Koula Sophianou, analyzed the situation of women in their respective countries, with a special impact in their role in diplomatic life.
The French Ambassador, Yves Saint-Geours, was also in charge of handing over the Women Avenir Award to the Senegalese Julie Cissé, for her work promoting the rights of women on earth.
Before concluding the event, also took the floor Santiago Velo Antelo, director of the magazine Diplomacia Siglo XXI, which, in its latest issue includes articles signed by 19 accredited female ambassadors in Madrid.
