Diplomat Milagros Hernando Echevarría, who was Spain’s ambassador to Lebanon and director of International Policy and Security of the Socialist Cabinet of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, died on Monday. She was 60 years old.
Born in 1957 in Bilbao, Hernando was until last May as Spain’s ambassador to Lebanon, since she occupied between May 2012 and April 2017. She holds a degree in Political Science and Sociology, currently serving as ambassador on a special mission for Mediterranean Affairs.
She entered the Diplomatic Career in 1988 and was assigned to the Spanish diplomatic representations in Peru and the Czech Republic. She was also an advisory adviser in the Cabinet of the Ministry of Foreign Policy and for the European Union.
In 2000 she was appointed Director of the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for European Affairs, Ramón de Miguel, and in July 2005, Director General of Policy Planning and Evaluation for Development.
