The Swedish Embassy, headed by its chief of Mission, Ambassador Lars-Hjalmar Wide, celebrated last December 14, Saint Lucia’s Day, which has a clear link with living conditions in Nordic agrarian society : darkness and light, cold and heat.
Saint Lucia is celebrated every year, when the days are much shorter than the nights. Very early in the morning Lucia, in the form of a young woman dressed in a white robe and with a crown of candles on her head, along with the cortege of “bridesmaids” and “children of the star”, and offer coffee, biscuits of ginger and rolls of saffron, accompanied all this with traditional chants.
At the reception was the artist Ana Alcaide, who played a typical instrument from an area of Sweden, the nyckelharpa, or keyboard viola in Spanish.
The event was attended by the ambassadors of Cyprus, Slovakia and Slovenia, as well as representatives of other diplomatic delegations, such as Poland, among others. In the act also talked the representative of Maeva Publishing House, Maite Cuadros, who distributes writer Camilla Läckberg’s books, to whom she described as “the best ambassador of Sweden, with the permission of the ambassador”. At the end of the event, the publisher gave the guests a copy of the latest novel by the Swedish writer, “Snow Storm”.
