The Belgian Government of Charles Michel has requested the placet of the Spanish Executive for a new ambassador, Marc Calcoen to be exact, according to information provided to The Diplomat in Spain by Spanish diplomatic sources.
The Belgian press had already echoed this appointment at the beginning of February and it is expected that the Foreign Ministry approves it. Calcoen will replace Pierre Labouverie at the Belgian Embassy in Madrid. Labouverie presented his credentials before King Juan Carlos on 6 October 2014, a week before Michel assumed the position of Belgian Prime Minister.
In the last years, Calcoen has been assigned to New York as Belgium’s consul. He had previously held the position of Belgian Ambassador to Singapore.
