Colombia asked the Security Council for the deployment of an international mission to verify the ceasefire in the country, a request welcomed by Spain, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs points out in a statement. Madrid is working with Bogota in this matter “by contributing its experience to define the type of support from the community to put an end to this conflict”.
During the visit of the Colombian Foreign Minister, Ángela Holguín, to Spain in November, the Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel García-Margallo, affirmed that the Colombian president planned to “promote a resolution to verify the post-conflict” and that, in that regard, Juan Manuel Santos could count on the Spanish support. He now reiterates that support and points out that Spain “will remain by Colombia’s side so that the Colombian people start to see the results of the peace”.
