Starting today, Casa de América screens the Cuban film Conducta, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from 14 to 30 January. The film was directed by Ernesto Daranas in 2014 and stars Alina Rodríguez, Armando Valdés Freire and Silvia Águila, among others.
Chala, is an eleven-year-old boy who lives alone with his drug addict mother, while he trains fight dogs to earn money. This world of brutality and violence sometimes comes to the surface in class. Carmela is his sixth grade teacher. The boy feels affection for her and respects her, but when she falls ill and is forced to leave the school for a few months, the new teacher, unable to handle Chala’s behaviour, sends him to a behaviour centre.
