Spanish geologists are celebrating this week after discovering NASA is promoting the I Online Course on Planetology and Astrobiology, which will take place from 15 October to 30 November.
This initiative has been organized by the Spanish Illustrious College of Geologists and is coordinated by Jesús Martínez Díaz, researcher at the Geosciences Institute (IGEO, in Spanish) and director of the Planetology and Astrobiology Network (Redespa, in Spanish).
NASA’s support can be seen on the web page for their Astrobiology Programme, which highlights this online course, which, it claims “will cover a diversity of astrobiological subjects from different disciplines (geology, chemistry, physics, astrophysics, biology and science communication/networks)”.

The College of Geologists indicates that the objective of the course is “to provide multidisciplinary training based on the latest discoveries related to planetary geoscience and the search for live in the Universe”.
In addition, it looks to bridge a gap in teaching in this area and recognise the value of the scientist in a cutting edge field which brings together science, technology and communication. The course, which will last 100 taught hours spread across three modules and 18 thematic units, is aimed at geologists, biologists, engineers and science graduates in general.
