The Council of Ministers yesterday appointed new ambassadors of Spain to the UN, Mozambique, Andorra and Unesco. These last two are the socialist leaders Angel Ros, president of the PSC and mayor of Lleida; and Juan Andrés Perelló, responsible for the Area of Justice, Liberties and New Rights of the Federal Executive of the PSOE, respectively.

The appointment of permanent representative to the United Nations fell, as The Diplomat advanced, in the diplomat Agustín Santos, who replaces Jorge Moragas, a former deputy of the PP and former director of the Cabinet of Mariano Rajoy in the Presidency of the Government, who He had been appointed to the position last December.

Moragas accompanied the current Minister of Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, a few weeks ago in the presentation in New York of the examination of Spain for the fulfillment of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda, but the Government is not willing to be the person who goes along with the Chief Executive, Pedro Sánchez when he goes to the UN General Assembly in September.

Agustín Santos was the Chief of the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Miguel Ángel Moratinos, he has been ambassador to the United Nations agencies in Geneva and was currently Consul General in Perpignan.

In addition, Sánchez has elected the current mayor of Lérida Ángel Ros, who is also president of the Party of Socialists of Catalonia, to take charge of the Embassy of Spain in the Principality of Andorra, relieving the diplomat Manuel Montobbio.

He has also chosen to appoint Andrés Perelló, member of the Federal Executive Commission of the PSOE and former MEP and former mayor of Buñol, ambassador to Unesco, where he replaces the diplomat Teresa Lizaranzu.

With these two appointments, there are already three socialist politicians appointed to run Embassies, after Manuel Escudero replaced the former PP minister José Ignacio Wert in the Permanent Representation before the OECD.

On the other hand, as it advanced yesterday of The Diplomat, the diplomat Carmen Buján has been named ambassador in Mozambique.

Finally, the Council of Ministers appointed ambassador in the Special Mission for the Promotion of Gender Equality Policies and Conciliation to María Clara Girbau Ronda, a post that had been created by the former Foreign Minister Alfonso Dastis, but which never came to be covered. María Clara Girbau joined the Diplomatic Career in 1997 and has been part of the staff of the European Union External Action Service of the European Union in Mauritania and Niger.
