The President of the Government, Pedro S\u00e1nchez, held a meeting this Thursday with representatives of the different tasks carried out by the United Nations, to whom he conveyed Spain’s commitment to increase funding to the organization by 25% for the period 2025-2027.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The objective of the meeting, held at the Moncloa Complex on the occasion of United Nations Day, was to exchange opinions and reflect together on the work carried out by the Organization and its agencies.<\/p>\n

Pedro S\u00e1nchez met with General Pablo G\u00f3mez, representative of Peace Operations; Maha Jarour, a Palestinian refugee engineer who works at the United Nations computing centre in Valencia; Khadija Amin, an Afghan journalist who arrived in Spain with Operation Antigone and who collaborates with UNHCR; and Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Sagrado, a nurse and epidemiologist who works for Doctors Without Borders and worked at the World Health Organisation.<\/p>\n

The President of the Government took the opportunity to highlight Spain’s commitment to the values \u200b\u200bof the Organisation and to an international order based on rules, as well as to underline Spain’s commitment to increasing funding to the United Nations by 25% for the period 2025-2027.<\/p>\n

For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Albares, released a video on social media, in which he stressed that United Nations Day commemorates that \u201c79 years ago the UN Charter came into force, whose principles we defend from Ukraine to the Middle East.\u201d \u201cSpain is firmly committed to the Charter, peacekeeping missions such as UNIFIL and the irreplaceable work of its agencies, such as UNRWA,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
