The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Albares, met this Thursday in New York with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, whom he asked for \u201crestraint\u201d to avoid \u201ca total war\u201d in the Middle East and for Tehran not to supply \u201cany type of weapons\u201d to Russia, according to sources from Foreign Ministry informed The Diplomat<\/em>.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

According to the same sources, Albares has held various bilateral meetings throughout the day and has participated in ministerial meetings during the High Level segment of the UN General Assembly, in order to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, peace and a solution to the conflict in the Middle East based on the two-state solution.<\/p>\n

In this context, the minister met with Abbas Araghchi, whom he asked for \u201crestraint\u201d to avoid \u201ca total war\u201d in the Middle East region and for Tehran not to supply \u201cany type of weaponry\u201d to Russia for the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Abbas Araghchi has warned before the UN General Assembly in New York that Israel will not escape harsh punishment for the aggressions against Lebanon and the Gaza Strip and has assured that the only way to avoid an escalation is to stop the fighting against the civilian population of Gaza and Lebanon.<\/p>\n

Albares also plans to participate, this same day, in the ministerial meeting on UNRWA, organized by Jordan and Sweden; at the meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee for Palestine and at the High Level Meeting on Palestine and the Two-State Solution, which is being held as a follow-up to the meeting of the Euro-Arab Islamic Group in Madrid on 13 September. At both meetings, Albares called for a \u201cceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon\u201d and warned that \u201cthe Middle East cannot continue to be a region condemned to violence and war, it deserves a horizon of peace and coexistence.\u201d<\/span><\/span> \u201cSpain is working towards this with its partners and allies,\u201d he added, through the social network X.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He also held meetings with representatives of international Jewish communities, with whom he discussed the importance of continuing to fight against anti-Semitism and to whom he conveyed Spain’s commitment to this.<\/p>\n

The day before, Albares met with his counterpart from Oman, Badr Albusaidi, with whom he discussed “the worrying situation in the Middle East” and praised his country’s mediating role, as reported through the X network.
