The Diplomat<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The spokesperson for the People\u2019s Parliamentary Group in the Congress, Miguel Tellado, yesterday demanded that the Government deploy the Armed Forces to put an end to the arrival of migrants to the Spanish coasts, mainly to the Canary Islands.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Government can use the Armed Forces to defend our borders and prevent the arrival of cayucos (canoes) to Spain,\u201d<\/strong> declared Tellado during an interview on the program ‘Espejo P\u00fablico’, on Antena 3. In that sense, he continued, the Government should mobilize \u201ca series of boats\u201d so that the cayucos that \u201cput the lives at risk\u201d of thousands of migrants cannot go out to sea \u201cso that they finally reach\u201d the borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, Tellado insisted that the European Commission \u201chas to get involved in the problem\u201d, since \u201cwe are a country that is part of the EU and we are on the border of Europe\u201d, in line with the request made this past Wednesday by the leader of the PP, Alberto N\u00fa\u00f1ez Feij\u00f3o, to the elected president of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen. \u201cWe have to support the Canary Islands in the face of an international migration crisis and we have to ask the European Commission for help,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the PP spokesperson, the \u201cincrease in irregular immigrants in Spain in recent years and especially in recent times\u201d is due to the abandonment of functions of the Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which he has asked to \u201cdo its job and seek an agreement between all the autonomous autonomous communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, he asked that “the principle of interterritorial solidarity with which minors are cared for in the Canary Islands not be broken” and described, in this sense, as “nonsense” Junts’ request to exclude Catalonia from the distribution of minors that They arrive in the Canary Islands. The requests of Carles Puigdemont’s party, he added, are “indefensible in political, legal and also humanitarian terms.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Response from Margarita Robles <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles<\/strong>, asked Miguel Tellado and the PP, \u201cwho boast of being a state party and who even had government responsibilities,\u201d to \u201chave a minimum of responsibility, to know the current legislation.\u201d and that they have respect for the Spanish Armed Forces.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In statements to the press after participating in a videoconference with the Spanish contingents on international missions, Robles recalled that \u201carticle 8 of the Constitution\u201d establishes that the Armed Forces have the function of \u201cdefending the peace, freedom and security of Spain,\u201d and, therefore, \u201cthey are not up to what they ask for.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his part, the PSOE spokesperson in Congress, Patxi L\u00f3pez, asked himself after learning of Tello’s proposal: \u201cWhat next, bomb them so they don’t arrive?\u201d Likewise, \u00cd\u00f1igo Errej\u00f3n, from Sumar, accused the PP of \u201cbuying Le Pen’s theses\u201d and the leader of Podemos, Ione Belarra, accused Tello of aspiring to be \u201cthe racist of the year.\u201d The leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, declared that it is \u201ca scam\u201d that the PP is now demanding the use of warships against immigration after having supported \u201cmassive regularization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
