Madrid<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Leoncio Fern\u00e1ndez, former head of the Fishermen&#8217;s Association of the \u00a0L\u00ednea de la Concepci\u00f3n (C\u00e1diz), has been summoned today before the Gibraltar \u00a0Magistrates Court to defend an accusation of robbery, for having removed in June 2104 one of the concrete block placed in the sea in summer 2013 by the Gibraltar\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 13.7143px;\">authorities<\/span>\u00a0and which the fishermen\u00a0consider makes their work more difficult.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span>The blocks were placed \u00a0in the sea around the coasts of Gibraltar to create an &#8220;artificial reef&#8221; according to the justification given then by Fabian Picardo&#8217;s Government, which\u00a0considers\u00a0these waters to be\u00a0within British jurisdiction, something which Spain does not accept. The Gibraltarian decision led to serious contention with Spain during that summer and to many protests by the fishermen in that the blocks also had spikes that entangled their nets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span>In June 2014, professional divers backed by the <\/span><span>Fundaci\u00f3n de Defensa de la Naci\u00f3n Espa\u00f1ola (Denaes) <\/span><span>proceeded to remove one of the blocks and although, in principle, the Guardia Civil permitted the operation, it finally prevented the\u00a0continued\u00a0removal of more blocks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span>[hr style=&#8221;single&#8221;] <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\">Former head of Cofrad\u00eda de La L\u00ednea summoned before Gibraltar magistrate today<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[hr style=&#8221;single&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Gibraltar accused Leoncio Fern\u00e1ndez of taking part in the operation and he was arrested \u00a0and subsequently set free while awaiting trial. Yesterday, the Gibraltar authorities issued a note in which they stated that the Royal Gibraltar Police accused the former Head of the Cofrad\u00eda de Pescadores linense of robbery, and indicated that he had been summoned to appear before the Colony&#8217;s Magistrates Court.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span>Fern\u00e1ndez, aged 70, declared to <em>Europa Press<\/em> that he &#8220;had nothing to do with the affair&#8221; and that his boat &#8220;was not suitable for towing that type of block&#8221;. However, he added \u00a0that if it had been up to him he &#8220;would not have removed just one block but would have removed all of
