In the United States<\/strong>, The New York<\/em> Times headlined on its front page: \u201cSpanish leader says he is considering resigning while his wife is investigated.\u201d \u201cThe President of the Government, Pedro S\u00e1nchez, has suspended his public functions and has stated that the investigation into alleged influence peddling by his wife has political motivations,\u201d it adds.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

For its part, The Washington Post<\/em> reports that \u201cthe president of Spain says he will consider resigning after his wife has been the subject of a judicial investigation,\u201d while the American economic and financial newspaper Bloomberg<\/em> goes further in its analysis and headline: \u201cS\u00e1nchez threatens to resign, putting Spain on an electoral path.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Brussels<\/strong>, the influential newspaper Pol\u00edtico <\/strong>headlines: \u201cPedro S\u00e1nchez threatens to resign as president of the Spanish Government.\u201d The president of the Government, the newspaper claims, has spread this \u201cshocking announcement\u201d and this \u201cexplosive letter\u201d alleging \u201cmonths of attacks by the right against his family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSpain\u2019s PM Pedro S\u00e1nchez halts public duties as his wife faces inquiry,\u201d the BBC headlines in the United Kingdom on its website. According to the British public broadcaster, the complaint against Bego\u00f1a G\u00f3mez comes from the \u201canti-corruption activists Clean Hands, who have \u201cparticipated in several high-profile judicial cases in recent years and are led by a man linked to the extreme right.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

For its part, The Times<\/em> headlines: \u201cPedro S\u00e1nchez is considering resigning as prime minister.\u201d \u201cThe Spanish leader has announced that he would suspend his public duties to reflect on his future, just a few hours after news emerged that his wife was being investigated for corruption accusations,\u201d adds the newspaper, which includes an analysis article titled \u201cWhat does Pedro S\u00e1nchez’s threat to resign mean for Spain?\u201d<\/p>\n

The Daily Telegraph<\/em> reports that Pedro S\u00e1nchez has blamed the accusations against his wife on a \u201cright-wing plot to tarnish his reputation\u201d and The Guardian<\/em> headlines \u201cSpanish PM considers resigning over political harassment in response to investigation into his wife\u201d and adds that S\u00e1nchez \u201chas suspended his public functions and has attacked the media and opponents.\u201d<\/p>\n

For its part, the Financial Times<\/em> reports that \u201cthe Spanish prime minister suspends his public duties after the corruption investigation of his wife\u201d and the British news agency Reuters affirms that the letter published by Pedro S\u00e1nchez has been \u201cshocking.\u201d<\/p>\n

In France<\/strong>, Le Monde<\/em> opens with the headline: \u201cSpanish Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez says he is considering resigning after announcing an investigation against his wife for corruption.\u201d Likewise, he explains that the open investigation against Bego\u00f1a G\u00f3mez is related to \u201calleged crimes of influence peddling and corruption.\u201d<\/p>\n

The progressive newspaper Lib\u00e9ration<\/em> asks, on its front page, \u201cWill Spain lose its Prime Minister?\u201d, while Le Figaro<\/em> headlines: \u201cSpain: with his wife under investigation, the Prime Minister, Pedro S\u00e1nchez, says he is considering resigning.\u201d According to the newspaper, S\u00e1nchez’s letter is “neither a letter of resignation nor a statement of reaction”, but rather “an unidentified political object” that has surprised all of Spain.<\/p>\n

In Germany,<\/strong> the sensational newspaper Bild <\/em>headlines: \u201cAn explosion in Spain!\u201d \u201cThe reason: investigations against his wife, Bego\u00f1a G\u00f3mez!\u201d, continues the German tabloid, adding the PP’s accusations that the President of the Government is looking for spectacle.<\/p>\n

For its part, Der Spiegel<\/em> reports on its front page that \u201cSpanish President S\u00e1nchez is thinking out loud about resigning\u201d and asks: \u201cWill the President of the Spanish Government surrender?\u201d Another German media, S\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung<\/em>, speaks of \u201canger, resignation and self-pity\u201d and describes the letter from the President of the Government as \u201cemotional\u201d.<\/p>\n

In Italy<\/strong>, La Repubblica<\/em> headlines with \u201cS\u00e1nchez threatens: ‘Fang against my wife, I am ready to resign’\u201d, and both this newspaper and La Stampa<\/em> quote a phrase by Pedro S\u00e1nchez in Congress: \u201cDespite everything, I continue to believe in Justice”. For its part, Il Corriere della Sera<\/em> reports that \u201cPremier S\u00e1nchez’s wife is under investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Portugal<\/strong>, Di\u00e1rio de Noticias<\/em> limits itself to highlighting that S\u00e1nchez’s letter is a “surprising announcement” and the newspaper P\u00fablico<\/em> headlines on the front page: “Pedro S\u00e1nchez cancels his agenda to consider his ‘continuation in the Government’\u201d.<\/p>\n

For her part, the correspondent for Spain and Portugal of the Dutch public television NOS, Miral de Bruijne, points out that \u201cthe S\u00e1nchez Government was already unstable and with these events it will only get worse. \u201cRegardless of whether the President of the Government resigns on Monday or not, this seems to be the beginning of a political crisis in Spain.\u201d<\/p>\n

External solidarity<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Yesterday, S\u00e1nchez received some support from abroad. Specifically, Luis Arce, president of Bolivia,<\/strong> expressed his solidarity with the president of the Government on the social network X and he denounced the “political and media lynching” of which he is the object and encouraged combating the “anti-politics” of those who “undermine democracy with lies.”<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister of Gibraltar, Fabian Picard<\/strong>o, also expressed his solidarity with S\u00e1nchez. And he stated: “Politics is a contest of ideas, not a litany of insults, abuse and attacks against the family.” In his X account, he added a statement from the Gibraltarian Government, in which he expressly encouraged S\u00e1nchez to “continue and “fight against the politics of personal vilification that the right has appropriated.”<\/p>\n
