Antonio Asencio was appointed yesterday by Council of Ministers as the new communications director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as The Diplomat<\/em> learned from government sources and was later confirmed by the Government itself.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Asencio will fill the vacancy left by Julio Pastor, who held the position since 2021 and left several weeks ago, at his own request.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Graduated in Information Sciences in 2003 from the Complutense University of Madrid, Doctor cum laude in 2010 from the University of M\u00e1laga, diploma in Higher International Studies from the Rey Juan Carlos University in 2013 and with teaching experience in several university centers, Antonio Asencio was editor-in-chief and director of Diariodirecto.com between May 2004-April 2006.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Within politics, he was advisor to the Presidency in the Provincial Council of M\u00e1laga between 2006 and 2008, advisory member in the Cabinet of the then Minister of Public Works, Magdalena \u00c1lvarez, between May 2008 and February 2009 and attached advisory member to the Department of Analysis and Studies in the cabinet of the then President of the Government, Jos\u00e9 Luis Rodr\u00edguez Zapatero, from February 2009 to January 2011.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Between 2011 and 2012, he was director of market development and institutional relations for the European subsidiaries of Shanghai Aerospace Automobile Ectromechanical. Since 2013, Asencio was linked to Eurostar Mediagroup, parent company of Sigma Dos, and from 2013 to the present he held the position of director of communication and strategy at the market research and demoscopy company Sigma Dos.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He has taught political and business communication at IE University and UCM and has publications and articles in the field of magazines specialized in communication and society, such as Communication & Society, Revista de Occident or Investigation & Marketing. He is the author of various essays on communication, such as East of Babel, subject, truth and language in the era of algorithms<\/em> (2022).<\/p>\n
